Artist Statement

"I would best describe my work as digestible abstract, a landscape with hints of the obvious. I have a great affinity for the nature; it’s a place for immersion, to experience, endeavors, enjoys and finally gets absorbed. In my works I attempt to capture the atmosphere, mood and raw energy of the places that I travelled and experienced. My works communicate deep felt relationship with the landscape, places, embodying a spirit of its atmosphere and serene aura. The images and designs produced are a direct emotional response to flora and fauna, pines, roads, mountains, canyons, rivers which I encounter in my travelling. My works taps the emotional gravity of the places, its rawness, pulse, and its memories in my subconscious that accumulated through various travelling in the physical landscapes.

The works are intentionally kept large scale to dominate the viewer and realize him of hugeness and sublimity of the nature. I rely on memories of my travelling experiences to recreate scenes and play with bright hues to entice the viewer and evoke a response. Standing in front of these huge art works one can feel and get dominated by the vitality of nature and virtual life within the canvas.

While working on each of my canvas, mostly in oil I never have any pre-conception of its execution; with my subconscious mind I could begin my work from any part of 10 feet wide canvas, without any set rules for painting, I believe in the process of making where work of art often demands the forms or dictates my next move. While making of the canvas I encounter various spaces, variables you have to be willing to lose and regain image until it’s resolved. The works of art comes out is a physical and emotional experience, I paint in expressive and gestural way capturing the force and energy of the vast nature. New shapes, colours, lines and textures are allowed to overlap, play and interact with themselves to evolve harmonious reflection of my emotionally charged experiences. The painting experiments with multiple perspectives, shifting grounds planes, reduced into shapes and values, the positive and negative space in the painting are carefully played and balanced to a harmonious whole. The works focuses on the process of depiction, how to see the things differently. My arts works breaks the tradition of popular singular vanishing point perspective, which for me limits the viewer by keeping them outside the painting. I believe the human eye is more fluid and dynamic than a single point of view. Through employing multiple perspectives, it reflects the moving focus of the human eye, it is just as one travels and stop for some beautiful view and then the journey continues for another view, with my main attention is always to absorb the viewer into the work, making them part of the world instead of a mere onlooker".
